HBTSO is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of the green sea turtle habitat of Hanaka’ape Bay, Kauai, Hawaii, USA. Through public outreach, education and legislative reform, it is the mission of HBTSO to ensure the turtle haul out area in the bay is guaranteed full protected status as critical wildlife habitat, and deemed inaccessible for further human development.
In alignment with the purpose of this website, our aim is to create a strong membership database for HBTSO (see Maps for specifications of territory). With a larger membership, the Board of HBTSO will be better equipped to demonstrate to government agencies and concerned private parties that this area – although presently not developed and inaccessible to human activity – is still zoned as developable land. This stronger support base will strengthen our position for its conservation value by consolidating the voices of as many concerned local citizens, visitors, and supporters of wildlife habitat preservation as possible.
When we accomplish this goal we will share our experience and resources with other citizen-based conservation and wildlife protection efforts.
